Saturday, February 9th, 2019 – Lake Palestine
The Ray Hubbard Bass Club had our first tournament of 2019 last Saturday February 9th on Lake Palestine. Our anglers who went down to practice on Friday experienced snow showers and the occasional bout with sleet along with sharp north winds and temperatures in the 30’s. The moisture left on Saturday but the cold and wind made the day tough on humans and fish alike. Despite the challenging weather we still had an amazing 38 boats come out to fish with us! Bites were hard to come by as we had only one limit brought to the scales. When the last fish had been weighed, it was the team of Garrett Macias and Bobby Finta continuing their momentum from last years Championship win by taking home the victory with four fish for an amazing 21.17 pounds. Their stringer included two fish over 6 pounds and another over 5. Big bass honors went to new RHBC members Duane Limberg and Vince Hoff with a 7.84 toad.
A huge thank you to James and Shellye Crawford, Paul Spann, Cameron Laing and David Mulkey for running an exceptionally smooth tournament in less than ideal conditions. Great job folks. Thanks to Donnie and everyone at Lake Palestine Resort for providing a great venue and a warm place to eat a delicious breakfast before going out in the cold to fish all day.
