Kids galore, good weather, a light breeze, birds of prey and plenty of volunteers all came together on Saturday, June 7th to create a successful Kid Fish Derby at Brockdale Park on the shores of Lake Lavon. The only thing missing was the fish, but that certainly wasn’t the fault of the kids who pounded the pond with offerings. Eight fish were weighed in with a .14 lb bream taking the first prize. One thing was evident, the young ladies were out in force and clearly outnumbered the young men! The day concluded with the traditional Birds of Prey show put on by Blackland Prairie Raptor Center and our club picnic. The picnic was highlighted by Jack Scheel’s Homewreckers, Tom Brouillette’s Pecan Pie Muffins, Herman Larkin’s Stained-glass Fruit Salad and just good-old down-home company.
A special thanks to the 25 club members who donated goods and time to make this a success.
