Last Sunday October 28th, the American Cancer Society and Ray Hubbard Bass Club hosted the Third Annual Fish For A Cure tournament on Lake Ray Hubbard. All proceeds from this tournament go directly to the American Cancer Society for their work helping cancer patients, their families and researching new treatments to help rid the world of this horrible disease. With all the horrible weather we’ve had in the last couple months, we’ve been holding our breath for a couple weeks hoping Mother Nature would see her way clear to give us good weather and she showed out for us! Bright sun, temperatures in the low 80’s and moderate wind were everything we could ask for. We hoped to top the last two years boat total of 62 and 60 respectively. We did that and then some! 95 boats came out to participate! People came from long distances in every direction to fish and raise money for a great cause. Of course the weather that was so pleasant made Mother Hubbard show her teeth. Current from draining water and blue bird skies made the fishing tough! Someone always catches them however and the team of Mark Everett and Luke Huffman did! They caught a great limit of 19.09 to win going away. We paid out two places for big bass and it was close! The team of Tim Meenan and Greg Willaby had big bass of 8.83 and Bryce Glick and Tanner Spurgin were right behind them with an 8.72!
